a game engine for rapid prototyping

$ cat README

MAQUETTE is a 2D and 3D game engine for rapid prototyping, heavily inspired by Godot. The editor runs in the browser, and games export to the web, desktop and mobile from one Rust runtime.

Prototypes are built from built-in shapes, 3D primitives, synthesised sounds and one bundled font, so there is nothing to import. Objects get their look and physics from properties, and their behaviour from child nodes. Gameplay is scripted in strict TypeScript.

$ cat PRINCIPLES

Build on what exists.
Existing open-source projects do the heavy lifting; only what doesn’t exist yet gets written.
Everything is a plugin.
The engine’s own features included.
Web first, native too.
The browser comes first, but the native build keeps working.
Documented and tested.
Every public item is documented and every feature has unit tests.

$ cat STATUS

Under development, started 2026-10-08. The runtime core, milestone M1, is done: scenes and prefabs, nine built-in shapes, text in the bundled font, physics, synthesised sound, keyboard and gamepad input, TypeScript scripting, built-in behaviours, tweens, and an HTML UI layer with menus. The engine's own features are plugins, and a game plays out the same natively and on the web. The editor comes next.

The button below opens Star Catcher, the game M1 was built for, from the newest build that passed CI.

Built on winit for windows and input, wgpu for the GPU on every platform, glam for the maths, Rapier for physics, gilrs for gamepads and swash for text. MIT licensed.
